what it holds
Treasury holds what is available to pay the next bounty. It is a balance, held by the contract itself, with no address able to withdraw from it.1
Its only purpose is to make marking cost less than nothing to the caller for as long as the balance lasts.
The figure is read directly from the chain rather than accumulated in a field, so it reflects payments in and payments out without any bookkeeping of its own.
It is the only quantity on this site denominated in something other than fast blocks.
what writes it
It is fed by the creator share of swaps on the token and by nothing else. No sale, no allocation and no transfer from any party contributes to it.
The sweep instruction moves that share into the contract. Anyone may call it, and the call takes no argument and pays its caller nothing.1
It is spent only on bounties. Each mark that qualifies draws the amount the curve specifies at that moment and the balance falls by exactly that amount.
Where the balance is below the amount the curve specifies, the mark still lands and the payment is whatever remains.
what it cannot do
There is no allocation. No portion of the balance is reserved for anything, because there is nothing else in the contract for it to be reserved for.
There is no team share. No address is named in the contract as a recipient, and there is no owner to name one later.
No instruction is capable of directing it elsewhere. The only outward path is the bounty paid to a caller who marked.
It also cannot be refilled deliberately by the record. Inflow depends on swap activity, which the record neither controls nor observes.
how to read it
The treasury is the record's coverage expressed as money. When it empties, the bounty is zero, marking becomes a pure cost, and dark grows against witnessed.1
Read it against the bounty curve to see how many marks the balance funds at the current rate, which is the figure printed in the margin.
Read it against the sampling rate to see whether inflow is keeping pace with attention or falling behind it.
The table lists the flows in order, so the balance can be recomputed from the sweeps and the bounties rather than taken on trust.
